After a professional career in finance, banking and insurance, Maya Khalaf decided to dedicate herself to her lifelong passion for painting. Her work explores the dynamic tension between fragility and strength through the language of nature.
Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, Khalaf develops layered compositions characterized by textured surfaces and nuanced, luminous color. Her paintings navigate the space between landscape and abstraction, where nature becomes a vessel for emotional intensity. Through rhythmic vertical structures and incandescent color fields, she transforms trees, flowers, light, and organic forms into charged visual experiences. In her practice, the tree is not merely depicted (it is reimagined) as a metaphor for growth, tension, and transformation.
She has cultivated her practice since childhood under the guidance of established mentors, including Nadia Saykali, Emmanuel Guiragossian, and Zoha Nassif.
